How Does it Land up on your Computer:
Avoid it like the plague… One can pickup this pesky pest by simply and unknowingly surfing certain web sites. In some cases you may end up clicking on an banner ad for one thing and end up with something quite different. My own experience the other night was that I ended up at a site that seemed perfectly benign and safe, yet when i transitioned form one page to another.. I was presented with an actual Windows Dialog Box.. Not a Web Page Popup made to look like a dialog box. Before clicking anything. I read the message. The message was simple and yet so typical and obvious to spot for someone that knows computers and IT. So i exited the dialog and the web page by killing the iexplorer task in task manager. This killed everything but the dialog box. So i ‘Xd out of the dialog box and barely escaped to tell this story. No doubt this is a major evolution in the malicious program over its predecessors.
Conclusion:
Stay vigilant, the treat is all over the web. The company that makes the program distributes it through affiliate marketing racquet. One such affiliate marketing site know and associated with Xp Anti virus and other rogue programs was dismantled last year. The name of that site was TrafficConverter.biz who basically allowed the rogue software to be sold through its network of affiliates. You’d fall of your chair if you saw how much these affiliates were banking. The full article on XP Antivirus 2008 / XP Antivirus 2009 is available at the Washington Post.
