How to Restart FreeNAS from a remote computer
First of just a short intro to FreeNAS. FreeNAS is an opensource application that turns virtually any computer into a Network Are Storage Server. As the name suggests, FreeNAS is 100% and supported by a huge community of developers and boasts some amazing features. What you’ll need:
- One FreeNAS Server Installed, Up and Running with Default IP of 192.168.1.250
- Remote PC on the same network as FreeNAS
- Download the [download id="6"] that you’ll usee to Shutdown FreeNAS
Once you have the above, the rest is really simple. Simply follow the instructions below:
- Save the downloaded file to your remote PC’s desktop
- Right Click the Downloaded File (Internet Shortcut) then change:
- url: http://admin:freenas@192.168.1.250/exec_raw.php?cmd=shutdown -p now to read your IP if different from the default
- Also change username/password if different from default
- Save the shortcut file.
- Doubleclick the Shortcut from your Desktop and Hey Presto. Your FreeNAS Server should have initiated a shutdown.
